Life is wonderful when we are enjoying all the things that God has placed in and around us. It’s not so much fun when we are facing crisis or impossible situations.

We have previously looked at some of the tough challenges we face in life. One being major changes and the other delayed promises. Today I want us to look at **IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS**.

An impossible problem or situation is when you wonder “How?” Not when, not where, but how? How are you going to do it, Lord? How are you going to get me out of this mess or through this crisis?

Fred Craddock tells the story about going to New York City and going into a little cafe to buy a hotdog. There’s only two people there and obviously in their 70’s, 80’s. Anna is the waitress, 75 years old. The man’s saying, “I’ll walk you home, Anna. A lady your age needs somebody to walk you home. Why don’t you want me to walk you home.” She said, “If you walk me home, the next thing you know I’ll be great with child.” (Fred said he dropped his hotdog at this point.) “You’re 75 years old. You past that a long time ago.” She said, “You remember Sarah in the Bible. She was in her 70’s and she became great with child.” How did that happen?” the man said. “She believed in the Man Upstairs. And not only that the mother of our Lord, before she even knew a man she was great with child.” The man said, “How did that happen?” She believed in the Man Upstairs.” The man said, “If I were a woman I wouldn’t believe in the Man Upstairs.”

It’s true. The Bible says, “By faith Abraham even though he was past age and Sarah herself was barren was enabled to become a father because he considered God faithful who had made the promise.”

We’ve talked about Abraham before. Abraham is 99 years old and he still doesn’t have a kid. And God says he’s going to be the father of a great nation. He had already changed his name to “Father of many nations.” How embarrassing!

The conversation goes something like this: **What’s your name? Father of many nations. How many kids you got? Zip! How old are you? 99. Right!**

An impossible situation? It was physically impossible. Sarah had already gone through menopause. The Bible says when God said you’re going to have a child, they laughed. They named their kid Isaac which means “laughter”. They said, “This kid’s a joke!” The Bible said Abraham looked at himself and said, “No way!” And Sarah looked at her body and said, “Ditto, Double no way!” Abraham laughed and Sarah laughed, but God had the last laugh!

I know there was a major change in your plans and you are now waiting on a promise that is being delayed. To top it off you now face an impossible situation.

You are in the “How’s” of life. Some of you are worried, you’re discouraged and down and you’re saying “I just don’t know how God’s going to do it.”

• How am I going to make ends meet this month?
• How am I going to put my kids through college?
• God, how are You going to heal me?
• God! How am I going to find time to serve. I’m too busy already.”

Are you may be thinking …

• How in the world are You going to change my husband?
• How in the world are You going to change this marriage?
• How in the world are You going to get through to my child?

We all at certain times will face the “How” questions of concerning situations in our life. What I have said may not have brought you the peace and satisfaction you are looking for at this moment. But hang in there because God is at work. Do not throw away your confidence or quit believing. It is your confidence and belief that God rewards, as well as continuing to be faithful to do what you know to do, while you patiently wait for the breakthrough you so desperately need.

I understand wanting a  Step 1 – Step 2 and Step 3 to get through this impossible situation you’re facing.  The last thing we want to hear is be patient and just persevere a little longer.

As believers in a big God we need to expect a miracle without knowing “How” or “When” God intends to do it.
